About the event
Golf courses perform a solid tine (solid-tine aeration) to improve the health and playability of the greens.
The process involves pushing small, solid tines into the turf to create tiny holes in the soil. This helps relieve soil compaction caused by foot traffic, mowing equipment, and play, which can otherwise restrict air, water, and nutrient movement to the roots.
By opening up the soil surface, it allows oxygen to reach the root zone and improves water infiltration, which encourages deeper and stronger root growth. The holes are then typically filled with sand to keep them open longer and further improve drainage.
Overall, solid tining helps maintain firm, healthy greens, reduces stress on the turf, and promotes more consistent playing conditions over time.
